Engineering in Malaysia: Study Duration

Duration of study engineering in Malaysia: institutions allow for longer periods of study, this depends on the programme you are planning to enroll in and the university you plan to do your studies from. The duration may vary from University to University. However, the duration per level is given as below in general:

  • Foundation – 1 year
  • Diploma – 2 years
  • Bachelor’s degree – 4 years
  • Master’s degree – 1 to 2 years
  • Doctorate – 2 years

You will also have individual and group projects that require you to design, build and test a new product or a technical solution. This allows you to gain valuable experience in building things and solving problems, which are necessary once you graduate and start work as an engineer.

Additionally, you will also be required to complete at least 2 months of industrial training (i.e. internship) to gain exposure to the industry.

Entry requirements: Engineering  Bachelor Degree in Malaysia

The entry requirements of engineering in malaysia can be decided by the course and the university you select as well as the eligibility. Below given are the entry requirements in general, based on per level:

Foundation

  • 5 credits for English, mathematical and science-based subjects in SPM  or equivalent

Diploma

  • 3 credits including Mathematics and a Science subject in SPM or equivalent, or
  • Certificate in relevant field

Bachelor’s degree

  • 5 credits in SPM or equivalent, and
  • Minimum of 3Cs for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in A-levels or equivalent, or
  • Foundation or Diploma in any related field

Master’s degree

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant field
  • Working experience may also be considered

Doctorate

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in any related field, or
  • Bachelor’s degree with excellent CGPA of at least 3.70 (for direct Bachelor to Ph.D. students)
