ALAM is the leading Maritime Training Academy in Malaysia that was established in 1977. We have been shaping Maritime leaders and professionals for over four decades at our fully equipped 67 acres campus in Kuala Sungai Baru, Melaka, overlooking the busy Straits of Malacca. In 1976, Maritime Training and Education for Seamen (MATES) was established to offer specialised training for seagoing personnel. Five years later, MATES achieved academy status and was named Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM). In 1997, ALAM was privatised and renamed Malaysian Maritime Academy. Today, ALAM is fully owned by MISC Berhad.
ALAM's courses are structured to facilitate and equip students with competence beyond compliance and by working in collaboration with both local and international maritime-related organizations and institutions. ALAM creates a path heading towards a satisfying and assured career in the Malaysian and global maritime industry.
ALAM is the only MET institution in Malaysia that offers the full range of maritime shipping related training to seafarers serving onboard domestic as well as foreign going vessels and for shore based shipping personnel. This includes the training for new entrants (cadetship training) to the highest level of Master / Chief Engineer COC.

On campus, we provide a steam power plant, diesel power plant, plant maintenance workshop, bench fitting & machining workshop, seamanship workshop, welding workshop, electrical and electronic lab, control lab, material testing lab and sectional models of machineries; all geared to help you in your training.
Being behind the scenes is just as important as being on the front line. That is why our laboratories are used to cater to special courses built upon customised software that is vital in the maritime industry. These include the language, multimedia and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) laboratories, all to further enhance your capabilities and skills on board a ship or back at shore.
