Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) was established in 1969 as the second university in the country. USM offers a wide range of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels to 30,000 students:
17 Academic schools on the main campus (island of Penang)
6 schools at Engineering campus (Nibong Tebal)
3 schools at Health campus (Kubang Kerian)
USM offers excellent opportunities for research, innovation and education to both local and foreign undergraduates and postgraduates. The University has 17 research centres for a wide range of specialisations. The university offers research and educational oppurtunities to students and its staff.
USM also has 10 service centres, 8 units (research/advisory/development.
USM has made a limited number of places available to non-Malaysian citizens to undertake courses on a full-time basis. It is one of the biggest universities in terms of enrollment in Malaysia.
Campus Information
USM has 3 campuses, with the main campus located in the tropical island of Penang. The other two campuses are the Engineering campus and Health campus.

USM provides male and female hostels to accommodate students in a safe and comfortable environment. There are single and shared rooms available. Some blocks in hostels are equipped with facilities for handicapped students.
