Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) was established to enhance Malaysia’s engineering and technical education ecosystem. Its establishment was finally approved by the Malaysian Cabinet in May 2001 under its original name, Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan Utara Malaysia (KUKUM). The first intake comprised 116 engineering students who began classes in June 2002. In February 2007, KUKUM was granted university status and renamed Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). It is now one of four technical universities in Malaysia.

UniMAP was originally founded with an explicit intention of producing highly skilled engineers who would support Malaysia in its industrial development and competitiveness. Its academic programs have shifted and diversified from purely engineering into related fields such as engineering technology, technology, science, business, communication, and others over the years. Graduate Assistantship

Eligible postgraduate students may apply for UniMAP’s Graduate Assistant (GA) financial assistance, subject to availability and the university’s requirements. The official guidelines state that:

• The Graduate Assistantship is offered under a one-year contract, renewable each year.
• Part-time tutoring and laboratory supervision may be required, for a maximum of six hours per week.
• The assistance provides a waiver of tuition fees only.
• PhD students receive a fixed allowance of RM1,500 per month.
• MSc students receive a fixed allowance of RM1,000 per month.
• The number of scholarships available is limited throughout the year.

Other Financial Assistance
