The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) is regarded as the highest level of research training degree. The Ph.D is awarded based on the foundation of the thesis prepared under supervision, resulting in an original and significant contribution, displaying extensive knowledge and comprehension of the subject and field of study. The programme is offered to those interested in in-depth research on a specialized area. A student must take one university general elective subject (3 credits) and a research project equivalent to 33 credit hours. The progress of the student is assessed each semester through progress reports. The degree is awarded based on an oral examination (viva voce) of the doctoral thesis submitted by the student at the end of his/her study. The minimum duration for full time students is six regular semesters. A lecturer or a panel of lecturers appointed by the faculty will supervise the research work. A co-supervisor from related industries may also be appointed. The fields of specialization are Structures, Materials, Geotechnics, Transportation, Traffic, Highway, Hydraulics, Hydrology, Water Resources, Coastal and Maritime, Environmental, Wastewater, Construction Management, Construction Technology, and Project Management.
A student may carry out research in any of the research areas as stated in the Areas of Research Section. The progress of the student is assessed each semester through progress reports.
