Overview of Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology in Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia
Along with advancements in medical technology, this course is offered to fulfil the needs for skilled and trained biomedical technologist to assist in the operation, development and management of biomedical laboratories. Biomedical Laboratory Technologist plays a major role as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team. They are involved primarily in hospitals, clinics and physicians’ office laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, forensic, research and public health laboratories. There are expanding opportunities for biomedical lab technologists to assist in research and development, and as technical and sales representatives in the biomedical and healthcare industry.

Majors in Biomedical Laboratory Technology will be able to:

Identify and solve medical laboratory related problems solving procedure by applying knowledge of basic medical sciences - PLO 1
Practise proper technique, identify technical errors, and perform basic troubleshooting competently in medical and research laboratory. - PLO 2
Collaborate and function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse healthcare /health provider team with good interpersonal skills - PLO 3
Contribute towards environment sustainability through proper practise according to biological, chemical, physical and biosafety requirement by adhering to legal and code of conduct in medical laboratory sciences - PLO 4
To present information and findings coherently to medical and laboratory community with effective verbal and written communications kills - PLO 5
Formulate solutions based on critical and lateral thinking in medical science and scientific research. - PLO 6

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
LOCAL STUDENT
- Pass in SPM/SPMV with at least 3 credits (minimum Grade C and higher) in the following subjects:
Bahasa Melayu, Mathematics, one science /technical/vocational subject and 2 other subjects; and at least pass in English; OR - Pass in O-Level with at least 3 credits (minimum Grade C and higher) including Mathematics, one science /technical/vocational subject and three other subjects and at least a pass in English; OR
- Pass in Engineering/Engineering Technology Certificate (Level 3, KKM) in the relevant or equivalent field from accredited PPT with a minimum CGPA 2.0; OR
- Pass in Vocational and Technical Skills Certificate (Level 3, KKM) in the relevant field with CGPA 2.0 AND obtained at least one credit at SPM level with one year experience in the relevant field or at least one semester bridging programme;
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT
Student must complete 11 years of schooling and obtain general pass in their Secondary School Certificate, O-levels or equivalent with min Grade C in Math, English, one science/vocational/technical subject and 2 other subjects.
IELTS 5.0 or equivalent.
