PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

(a) Thesis Only

For the Master of Laws programme by thesis only, it is compulsory for a candidate to prepare a thesis of not more than 60,000 words worth 40 units. The candidate will be supervised by a supervisor/co supervisor/graduate committee to be determined by the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee.
It is compulsory for candidates to take UK6215 Legal Research Methodology as a registered audit course (AU) in the first semester of the study period.

(b) Coursework and Thesis

For the Master of Laws programme by coursework and thesis, it is compulsory for a candidate to complete ONE (1) compulsory course UK6215 Legal Research Methodology, FOUR (4) elective  courses and complete a thesis of not more than 30,000 words  worth 15 units. Each course whether compulsory or elective is equivalent to 5 units.
The total number of units for  coursework and thesis is 40.
For full time candidates, the total  number of units for   coursework per semester is a maximum of 20  and a minimum of 10.
For part-time candidates, the total number of units for coursework per semester is a maximum of 10 and a minimum of 5.
Candidates must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.00 each semester before commencement of thesis writing.

(c) Coursework Only

For the Master of Laws programme through coursework only, it is compulsory for a candidate to complete ONE (1) compulsory course UK6215 Legal Research Methodology and SEVEN (7) elective courses. Each course whether compulsory or elective is equivalent to 5 units.  The total number of units for coursework only is 40 units.
For full time candidates, the total number of units for coursework per semester is a maximum of  20 and a minimum of 10.
For part-time candidates, the total number of units for coursework per semester is a maximum of 10 and a minimum of 5.
Candidates must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.00 to be awarded a degree.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor of Law (Honours) degree, or a Bachelor of Law or Syariah (Honours) degree from UKM or any institution of higher learning recognised by the UKM Senate with a minimum CGPA of 3.00.
For a candidate with CGPA of  2.70-2.90, the candidate is required to have three (3) years of working experience in the legal and judicial services or related field and the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee must also be satisfied that the candidate is able to pursue the Master programme.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Foreign candidates should have attained a minimum band of 547 for TOEFL or a minimum band of 6 for IELTS.
Foreign candidates who possess a good command of the Malay language will be exempted from the above unless the candidate wishes to write a thesis in English.
