Technical University of Malacca UTeM

The Technical University of Melaka (UTeM) is the 14th public university in Malaysia. UTeM University Malaysia is the pioneer in the use of the “Practice and Application Orientation” teaching and learning method for tertiary-level technical education in Malaysia. It consists of three campuses which UTeM main campus, UTeM Technology Campus and UTeM City Campus. UTeM Univerity Malaysia set within 766 acres of lush, verdant landscape boasting state of the art facilities.

 all in together, there are 7 faculties. Currently, there are total 10,434 undergraduates and 4582 postgraduate students. The environment of UTeM University Malaysia cultivates the diversity and belongings culture among students. The UTeM has identified the excellence in focused research and innovation. UTeM has chosen Advanced Manufacturing Technology as its niche area, which requires the synergistic commitment of all faculties and underpinned by four thrust areas as follows; Green Technology, System Engineering, Human-Technology Interaction and Emerging Technology.

Location of Technical University of Melaka, Malaysia (UTeM Location): UTeM University Malaysia is located in Hang Tuah Jaya, 76100 Durian Tunggal, Melaka, Malaysia. It takes one and a half hours of journeys from the main city of Malaysia which is Kuala Lumpur.

English Language requirement for admission in UTeM University Malaysia: All international students who are going to apply for UTeM are required to have Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOFEL) or the test administered by the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with the minimum required score below for different levels of study.

Accommodation

UTeM has five faculties namely. Electrical Engineering, Electronic and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Information and Communication Technologies, There are two academic centers, that is, being the Human Development and Language Centre (PBPI) and the University-Industry Centre (UNIC), The Institute for Technology Management and Entrepreneurship was also established to offer post-graduate programmes on technology management, entrepreneurship and MBA programmes. The Graduate Study Centre was also established in order to coordinate the postgraduate study in UTeM
The university offers academic programs at
diploma, bachelor, master and PhD levels. The university aims to produce professionals who are not only highly qualified and technically competent butane also highly skillful and efficient.

Academic Strengths
The academic programmes offered by the university are conducted in a way where equal emphasis is given to the theoretical and practical aspects of the discipline. The teaching and learning approaches at the university are practice and application-oriented and involve
• Competency development• Action-based learning• Simulation of real situations and problems• Solving industry-related problems UTeM admitted its first batch of 348 students on 10 June 2001 and by April 2007, it had a total enrolment of 5099 students.

Teaching & Learning
UTeM provides various sophisticated facilities such as Lecture Halls, well-equipped laboratories such as Robotic & Automation Lab, Instrumentation Lab, Thermodynamics &Technology Lab, Multimedia Lab, Smart Lab, Language and Chemistry Lab, The Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC) which is a teaching factory, will be in operation at the end of the year.

 Accommodation
UTeM provides on-campus accommodation to about 3,600 of its students in three residential colleges. All residential colleges have complete facilities, Information on private residences available for rent is also available from newspapers and notice boards, Nearly all accommodation around UTeM e.g. Taman Tasik Utama and Taman Bukit Beruang, have three bedrooms and an attached bathroom. Monthly rental for such accommodation ranges from RM 250 to RM 800.

Knowledge Infrastructure
UTeM provides a complete library filled with academic sources that students need. It operates everyday from 8.00am to 11.00pmon weekdays and from 8.00am to 4,30pmduring weekends, The library is also open during the semester break on weekdays only from 8.00am to 4.30pm,

Medical Care
All students are eligible for medical service at the students' clinic which operates from 8.15a.m. to 4.30p.m. daily. Health services are also available at appointed panel clinics within close proximity of the campuses.

Food
There are a variety of cafes and restaurants nearby which operate from 8.00am to 6.00pm.

Transportation
The university provides 16 buses for the use of its students and staff. These buses ferry students between hostels and campuses. Getting around Melaka by bus is easy and relatively cheap, Public transportation such as taxis and buses (Salira) operate from Melaka town (Melaka Central in Jalan Tun Razak) to UTeM.
