A Bachelor in Museum Studies & Heritage Management is an interdisciplinary humanities degree that trains students to research, manage, interpret, and present material and intangible heritage in museums, archives, cultural institutions, and community-based heritage programmes. Unlike art-focused or conservation science programmes, this bachelor’s degree emphasizes cultural interpretation, historical research, collection ethics, and museum communication, preparing graduates to become curators, exhibition planners, museum educators, and heritage analysts.
The programme explores how museums preserve culture, represent identity, shape public memory, and communicate knowledge. Students learn collection policy, material culture studies, exhibition planning, public education, museum marketing, cultural anthropology, heritage tourism, archives, documentation techniques, digital heritage, and UNESCO frameworks for cultural heritage protection. The curriculum also discusses ethical issues such as repatriation of artifacts, colonial collecting, sacred objects, indigenous rights, intellectual property, and the balance between conservation, tourism, and community representation.
Students engage in practical components, including cataloguing, visitor studies, digital curation, community storytelling, heritage interpretation for exhibitions, documentation photography, and educational programming. Fieldwork and internships often take place at museums, historic sites, galleries, archives, libraries, tourism organizations, and environmental heritage parks. Upon graduation, students are prepared for curatorial roles and heritage policymaking, and they gain strong competencies in cultural research, public communication, and ethical museum practice.
