Malaysia does not currently offer a standalone Bachelor in Healthcare Safety & Infection Control. Instead, the field is entered through bachelor’s degrees that integrate infection prevention, environmental health, epidemiology, hospital safety, and public health policies. Graduates from these programmes are eligible for roles such as Infection Control Officer, Safety & Quality Coordinator, Patient Safety Specialist, or Environmental Health Officer in healthcare facilities.
Relevant bachelor programmes include:
These programmes teach microbial transmission, hygiene protocols, clinical waste management, sterilization systems, outbreak investigation, epidemiology, toxicology, health regulations, hospital safety audits, and occupational health strategies. Students are trained to manage hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), evaluate safety risks, ensure compliance with Ministry of Health guidelines, and support clinical safety practices. Hospital or district health department internships give practical experience in infection surveillance, patient safety audits, outbreak control, food safety inspection, and environmental hazard assessment.
Graduates may further specialize through postgraduate certificates or Master’s degrees in infection control, occupational health, or healthcare quality. A bachelor’s degree serves as the primary academic foundation to become a Healthcare Safety & Infection Control professional in Malaysia.
