Course Intake
Overview of Master of Legal Studies in Universiti Malaya Malaysia
This program consists of research only.
A candidate for the Master of Legal Studies is required to demonstrate ability to carry out under guidance, research of high quality and to relate the research to the broader legal framework. At the end of the course, the candidate should demonstrate ability to present well written work and demonstrate competence in the chosen field of law.

All candidates on this programme must register for Research Methodology course (LQX7001- Research Methodology) with 3 credits and the Dissertation shall not exceed 50,000 words.

FACULTY SEMINARS
- Research Proposal seminar - to be delivered at the First Semester. The candidates are required to submit a research proposal of 3,000 – 5,000 words.
- Candidature Defence seminar - to be delivered at the Second Semester. The candidates are required to deliver a research progress report of about 10,000 words.
PUBLICATION
Candidates are required to show proof of acceptance for publication of at least one (1) paper in a Category A or B refereed journal recognized by Faculty prior to a Committee of Examiners meeting.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for the LLM programmes at the University of Malaya must satisfy the following requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree with honours with CGPA of 3.0 and above or its equivalent; or
- A Bachelor’s degree with honours with CGPA from 2.70 to 2.99 or its equivalent and one (1) of the criteria below, or:
- relevant work experience;
- publication in the relevant field;
- applicant is a scholarship holder;
- applicant is a University of Malaya graduate.
- A Bachelor’s degree with honours with CGPA from 2.50 to 2.69 and two (2) of the criteria below:
- relevant work experience;
- publication in a relevant field;
- applicant is a scholarship holder;
- applicant is a University of Malaya graduate.
LANGUAGE REQUIRMENTS
- Bahasa Malaysia Requirement for Malaysian
- Pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)
- Malaysian Language Requirement for Non-Malaysian
- Required to attend at a satisfactory level and pass a course in Bahasa Malaysia conducted by the University before being conferred the Degree
- English Language Requirement for Non-Malaysian
- TOEFL – score 550; or
- IELTS (Academic) – band 6.00; or
- Pass English Language course offered by University of Malaya (UMCCed) ; or
- Possesses a degree or degrees from a university or an institution of higher education where the medium of instruction is in English language.
