Overview
This Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering is a full research postgraduate quali?cation that focuses on advancing engineering research and theoretical knowledge. The programme encompasses engineering ?elds such as electrical, mechanical, civil and petroleum engineering, among others. The holistic approach to the PhD programme provides learners with the competency needed in all levels of engineering. This starts from issue analysis and conceptualisation, to planning a research project and transferring this to an application in the industry or for the commercial market.
This programme focuses on research (thesis and publications) as the major requirement for PhD candidates to obtain this quali?cation. To give candidates an advantage in conducting quality research, the programme includes the speci?cally-designed Research Methodology coursework. The 3-credit hour coursework focuses on the essential tools for competitive research, presentation and publication for national and international scienti?c channels. In addition to lectures and assignments, candidates are encouraged to participate in national and international engineering conferences at least once during their candidature period. The Faculty also organises seminars, talks, a journal club and various engineering workshops where PhD candidates can take part as presenters or participants.
