Course Overview

The Bachelor of Social Work with Honours programme aims to produce competent, ethical, and professional social work graduates who are responsive to current and emerging social needs. The programme equips students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in social work practice, policy, and community development, enabling them to work effectively with individuals, families, groups, and communities. Emphasis is placed on leadership, critical thinking, and innovative problem-solving in addressing complex social issues. The programme also promotes the integration of knowledge, professional practice, and strong moral values to ensure graduates act with integrity and social responsibility. Ultimately, it seeks to develop a skilled and compassionate workforce that is competitive in the job market and capable of contributing meaningfully to social well-being and sustainable community development.

Entry Requirements

STPM Category Applicants must have passed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or an equivalent qualification with honours in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia, including the Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia July Paper, where applicable. Candidates must also have passed the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50. In addition, applicants are required to obtain at least Grade C (NGMP 2.00) at the STPM level in Business Studies, Economics, or Accounting, as well as Bahasa Melayu or Communicative Malay Literature. At the SPM level, candidates must have obtained a minimum of Grade C in one Islamic Studies–related subject (such as Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah, Pendidikan Al-Quran dan Al-Sunnah, Pendidikan Islam, Bahasa Arab, Tasawwur Islam, Hifz Al-Quran, Maharat Al-Quran, Usul Al-Din, Al-Syariah, Manahij Al-Ulum Al-Islamiah, Al-Adab wa Al-Balaghah, or Moral Education), Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, English, and one subject from Accounting, Economics, Business, Science, Additional Science, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology. Applicants must also achieve at least MUET Band 2. Matriculation / Foundation Category Applicants must have passed the SPM or an equivalent qualification with honours in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia, including the Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia July Paper, where applicable. Candidates must have successfully completed a Matriculation or Foundation programme with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and obtained at least Grade C in the relevant specialisation subjects at the Matriculation or Foundation level. These subjects include Islamic Studies–related subjects (such as Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah, Pendidikan Al-Quran dan Al-Sunnah, Pendidikan Islam, Bahasa Arab, Tasawwur Islam, Hifz Al-Quran, Maharat Al-Quran, Usul Al-Din, Al-Syariah, Manahij Al-Ulum Al-Islamiah, Al-Adab wa Al-Balaghah, or Moral Education), Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, English, and one subject from Accounting, Economics, Business, Science, Additional Science, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology. Applicants must also obtain a minimum of MUET Band 2. Diploma and Equivalent Category Applicants must have passed the SPM or an equivalent qualification with honours in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia, including the Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia July Paper, where applicable. Candidates must have graduated with a Diploma or other equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government and approved by the University Senate, with a minimum CGPA of 2.50, preferably in Accounting, Business, Management, or Administration. At the SPM level, applicants must have obtained at least Grade C in one Islamic Studies–related subject (including Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah, Pendidikan Al-Quran dan Al-Sunnah, Pendidikan Islam, Bahasa Arab, Tasawwur Islam, Hifz Al-Quran, Maharat Al-Quran, Usul Al-Din, Al-Syariah, Manahij Al-Ulum Al-Islamiah, Al-Adab wa Al-Balaghah, or Moral Education), Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, English, and one subject from Accounting, Economics, Business, Science, Additional Science, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology. Applicants must also achieve a minimum of MUET Band 2. STAM Category Applicants must have passed the SPM or an equivalent qualification with honours in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia, including the Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia July Paper, where applicable. Candidates must have passed the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) examination with at least a Jayyid grade. At the SPM level, applicants are required to obtain a minimum of Grade C in one Islamic Studies–related subject (such as Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah, Pendidikan Al-Quran dan Al-Sunnah, Pendidikan Islam, Bahasa Arab, Tasawwur Islam, Hifz Al-Quran, Maharat Al-Quran, Usul Al-Din, Al-Syariah, Manahij Al-Ulum Al-Islamiah, Al-Adab wa Al-Balaghah, or Moral Education), Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, English, and one subject from Accounting, Economics, Business, Science, Additional Science, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology. Applicants must also obtain at least MUET Band 2.
