Course Overview

The Diploma of Media Studies at Curtin Malaysia offers a comprehensive pathway into the fast-paced world of media and communication. This program is designed to build strong critical thinking abilities alongside practical, hands-on experience, preparing students for careers in web media, journalism, and screen production. Students develop creativity, strategic thinking, and industry-relevant skills that reflect real-world media practices. In the first year, students establish a solid foundation through studies in English language, media and communication, journalism, visual culture, and screen production. The second year focuses on advanced skills in web and screen communication, media practices, and journalism, supported by both theoretical and practical learning. Industrial training towards the end of the program provides valuable workplace exposure and enhances industry readiness. Delivered full-time on campus in Malaysia, the diploma is offered in March, July, and October intakes. Graduates may receive advanced standing into the Bachelor of Communications at Curtin Malaysia, enabling a faster transition to undergraduate study and improved career prospects.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the minimum academic and English language entry requirements for admission. For academic qualifications, SPM applicants are required to obtain at least three credits, including English. Candidates with STPM must achieve a minimum Grade C with a CGPA of 2.0 in any subject. Applicants holding GCE O’ Level qualifications must have at least three credits, including English, while UEC applicants are required to obtain B4 in three relevant academic subjects, including English. In addition, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the accepted qualifications. This includes an overall IELTS score of 5.0 with a minimum of 5.0 in all bands, a TOEFL score of 42, or a PTE Academic score of 36. Applicants may also qualify with a total Linguaskill score of at least 154, with no individual score below 147. Alternatively, a grade C in SPM English, a grade D in IGCSE or GCE O’ Level English, MUET Band 3.5 with a minimum aggregate score of 188, or UEC English at B4 level is accepted.
