Course Overview

The Diploma in Aquaculture at Curtin Malaysia is a two-year program designed to develop strong scientific knowledge and practical skills in aquaculture farming and management. The course covers key areas such as breeding, production, processing, and aquaculture system design, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and food security. Learning takes place primarily on campus, offering hands-on farm-based experiences that reflect real industry practices. In the first year, students build essential academic skills including communication, critical thinking, numeracy, and information technology, alongside foundational studies in aquaculture, fisheries science, fish biology, and water quality management. The second year focuses on specialised aquaculture practices such as fish breeding, nutrition, feed management, and pond construction. The program concludes with industrial training, providing valuable industry exposure and practical experience. Graduates are prepared for careers as aquaculture technicians, entrepreneurs, researchers, and aquafeed production officers, and may receive advanced standing into relevant degree programs at Curtin Malaysia.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the minimum academic and English language entry requirements for admission. For academic qualifications, SPM applicants are required to obtain at least three credits, including Mathematics and one science subject. Candidates applying with STPM must achieve a minimum Grade C with a CGPA of 2.00 in any subject, or an equivalent qualification, and must also have completed SPM with three credits, including Mathematics and one science subject. Applicants holding GCE O’ Level qualifications must obtain at least three credits, including Mathematics and one science subject. UEC applicants are required to achieve B4 in three relevant academic subjects, including Mathematics and one science subject. Applicants with SKM qualifications must hold a pass at Level 3 of the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF) in a related field, together with SPM with at least one credit. Alternatively, applicants holding a Certificate (Level 3 MQF) in a related field must have a minimum CGPA of 2.00 or an equivalent qualification. In addition, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the accepted qualifications. This includes an overall IELTS score of 5.0 with a minimum of 5.0 in all bands, a TOEFL score of 42, or a PTE Academic score of 36. Applicants may also qualify with a Linguaskill total score of at least 154, with no individual score below 147. Alternatively, a grade C in SPM English, a grade D in IGCSE or GCE O’ Level English, MUET Band 3.5 with a minimum aggregate score of 188, or UEC English at B4 level is accepted.
