Course Overview

AIMST University’s Diploma in Biotechnology is a 2–3-year hands-on programme that introduces students to the dynamic world of biotechnology — a field combining biology and technology for applications in medicine, agriculture, food and environmental science. The diploma curriculum covers core areas such as molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics and bioprocessing, providing practical lab experience alongside theoretical learning. Students are trained in essential laboratory techniques, analytical methods and research fundamentals that form the backbone of biotechnological work. This qualification is ideal for students who want to enter the workforce sooner or build a foundation before progressing to a related bachelor’s degree. AIMST’s focus on experiential learning ensures students are prepared for entry-level roles such as lab technician, research assistant or quality control assistant in biotech companies, pharmaceutical industries, environmental labs and agritech firms. Additionally, the diploma supports further academic progression in biotechnology and allied science degrees, giving learners flexibility to expand their expertise in specialised biotech areas.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: SPM or equivalent with three credits in Mathematics, one science subject and one other subject; STPM or equivalent with at least Grade C (GPA 2.00) in any subject and SPM with the same three credits; STAM or equivalent with a minimum grade of Maqbul and SPM with three credits in Mathematics, one science subject and one other subject; SKM (Level 3, MQF) in a related field with SPM having at least one credit in Mathematics and a pass in English; or a Certificate (Level 3, MQF) in a related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 or equivalent. Other qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to approval.
