Course Overview

AIMST University Malaysia’s Bachelor in Software Engineering (Honours) is aimed at students who want to build solid engineering habits, not just “learn coding”. The university describes it as an intensive 3.5-year programme, structured to develop technical foundations, practical delivery skills, and awareness of modern industry demands. You begin with core computing knowledge such as programming technique, computer organisation and architecture, operating systems, computer systems & networks, Python, database design, application development processes, and system analysis & design. From there, the course moves into applied software engineering through subjects like web development using platforms, web systems & technology, application integration, software engineering methods, information management, and human–computer interaction, with an emphasis on UX design and building usable products. AIMST also integrates Industry 4.0-aligned topics including machine learning, cloud computing, big data analytics, artificial intelligence, IoT, e-commerce, 5G wireless communication, and robotics, helping students understand where software is heading globally. The programme includes final year project phases and industrial training (24 weeks), which matters because employers value evidence of real build experience. Graduates typically pursue paths across software development, systems roles, project work, and tech teams in a wide range of industries.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have completed AIMST Foundation or Matriculation with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and a credit in Additional Mathematics at SPM level, or Mathematics plus one Science subject at SPM level or equivalent. Admission is also open to candidates with STPM (minimum Grade C / CGPA 2.00 in any two subjects), STAM (minimum Jayyid), or STPM Science Stream with at least Grade C in Mathematics and one Science/ICT subject, provided the required Mathematics background is met. Diploma holders in Computing (MQF Level 4) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50, Diploma in Science and Technology with a minimum CGPA of 2.75, as well as DKM, DVM, or DLKM in Computing fields (minimum CGPA 2.50) may be considered subject to HEP Senate approval and internal assessment. Candidates without Additional Mathematics may be required to take and pass a reinforcement Mathematics course, which can contribute to graduation credits, unless exempted based on equivalent prior study.
