The mission of the Department of Mathematics is to be an exemplary provider of education in modern mathematics based on research and innovative teaching and to pursue outstanding research in mathematics and statistics. It provides training which is focused on fields of research of current interest so as to forge and support excellence.
The outstanding results achieved are evidenced by consistent contribution to various scholarly journals by the academic staff and through their performance in consultancy work. The Department has interests in many areas of mathematical science, including Algebra, Numerical Analysis, Financial Mathematics, Differential Equations, Graph Theory, Probability Theory, Survival Analysis, Spatial Time Series, Experimental Design and Robust Statistics.
It conducts research that supports the on-going development of theoretical mathematical science, simultaneously promoting the interdisciplinary use of mathematics and statistics in science, engineering and other fields. In addition to collaboration with postdoctoral fellows, visiting scholars, and graduate and undergraduate students, Department members enjoy close collaborative relationships with scientists from other departments and research institutes, nationally and internationally. Many Department members are affiliated to the Institute of Mathematical Research (INSPEM).

Entry Requirement of Bachelor of Science in Statistics with Honours in Universiti Putra Malaysia Malaysia
For students from India
Applicant who is interested in pursuing his/ her studied at UPM must fulfil the following: To have received a National Higher School Certificate (or an Advanced Level or the equivalent of 12 years of basic education) with the grade 80% and above. or a Diploma from recognized Institutions with at least a CGPA of 3.00. English Language Requirements: IELTS - Minimum overall score of 6.0 for TESL/English or 5.5 for other programmes; or TOEFL - Minimum overall score of 550 for TESL/English or 500 for other programmes; or Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) - Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) - enrolled at ELS-UPM - Level 109 English or Level 107 for other programmes.
For international students
Applicant who is interested in pursuing his/ her studied at UPM must fulfill the following:
