Overview of Diploma in Mechatronic Engineering in Quest International University Perak Malaysia

Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary field of engineering that integrates mechanics, electronics, computer science and control theory. This programme is designed to expose students to the principles and practice of mechatronics. The syllabus focuses mainly on the delivery of principles and practices that integrates disciplines in mechanical and electronic engineering, as well as computing. Students will also acquire work skills and develop a broad understanding and knowledge of the engineering industry. Compulsory industrial training is incorporated into the syllabus to make the graduates industry-ready upon completion of their diploma programme. Upon completion of the programme, graduates can work as technicians, assistant engineers, research and development assistants, technical representatives and production technicians in the field of manufacturing, process & control industry and robotics industry.


Programme Aims

The programme aims to prepare graduates who possess a command of mechatronic knowledge and hands-on skills required to undertake supervision of a team and troubleshooting in both operation and maintenance within the industrial context.

Knowledge
Apply knowledge of applied mathematics, applied science, mechatronics engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization as specified in DK1 to DK4 respectively to wide practical procedures and practices;

Problem Analysis
Identify and analyze well-defined mechatronics engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using codified methods of analysis specific to their field of activity (DK1 to DK4);
PLO 3
Design/Development of Solutions
Design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the design of systems, components or processes to meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations (DK5);
PLO 4
Investigation
Conduct investigations of well-defined problems; locate and search relevant codes and catalogues, conduct standard tests and measurements;

Modern Tool Usage
Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern mechatronics engineering and IT tools to well-defined engineering problems, with an awareness of the limitations (DK6);
PLO 6
The Engineer and Society
Demonstrate knowledge of the societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to mechatronics engineering technician practice and solutions to well-defined mechatronics engineering problems (DK7);

Environment and Sustainability
Understand and evaluate the sustainability and impact of mechatronics engineering technician work in the solution of well-defined mechatronics engineering problems in societal and environmental contexts (DK7);

Understand and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of technician practice;

Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member in diverse technical teams;

Communicate effectively on well-defined engineering activities with the mechatronics engineering community and with society at large, by being able to comprehend the work of others, document their own work, and give and receive clear instructions;

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements of Diploma in Mechatronic Engineering in Quest International University Perak Malaysia

Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Three (3) credits, including Mathematics and any one (1) Science/Technical/Vocational subject and pass in English
Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) or its equivalent Minimum Grade C (CGPA 2.0) in any one (1) subject and pass in Mathematics, English and any one (1) Science/Technical/Vocational subject at SPM level or equivalent
Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) Minimum Grade B in three (3) subjects including Mathematics and any one (1) Science / Technical / Vocational subject and pass in English
Foundation / Matriculation / Pre-University Pass in related field with minimum CGPA 2.0
New South Wales Higher School Certificate (NSW HSC) Minimum 50% in five (5) subjects including Mathematics and any one (1) Science subject
Certificate in Engineering / Engineering Technology (Level 3 KKM) Minimum CGPA 2.0
Certificate in Vocational and Technical / Skills(Level 3 KKM) or its equivalent  Pass with CGPA 2.0 and one (1) year experience in related field or one (1) semester of bridging programme
Other Qualifications Other equivalent qualifications recognised by the Government of Malaysia
  • English Proficiency for Foreign Student: IELTS – 6.0 / TOEFL (550) paper-based or equivalence
Assessment

Assessment of Diploma in Mechatronic Engineering in Quest International University Perak Malaysia

Students’ abilities are gauged through continuous assessments and final examinations. The continuous assessment component comprises tests / quizzes, mid-term examinations and projects / assignments.
